Opening the Task Manager is not difficult, but you may find yourself in a situation where you have to do so without a working mouse, keyboard or touchpad. That’s why we’ll show you a few ways to open the Task Manager.
Open Task Manager Using the Keyboard
There are several ways to open task manager only by using your keyboard.
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete
Pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete first takes you to the Windows Security Screen which shows you several options including locking your PC, switching user, singing out and especially opening the Task Manager.

On this screen you can navigate to option Task Manager by using the Tab key on your keyboard then press Enter and Task Manager will open.

- Press Ctrl + Shift + Escape
Another way to open Task Manager using only keyboard is pressing Ctrl + Shift + Escape. It is probably the easiest and fastest way how to do so because you don“t have to do anything else.

There are also multiple ways how to open the Task Manager only using your Mouse which could be helpful if, for example, your keyboard stops working.
- Power Use Menu
You can simply access the Task Manager through the power use menu by left clicking on the winows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen and selecting the Task Manager option.

- Taskbar
Again, as in the previous point, you can easily open the Task Manager by left-clicking only on the Taskbar and selecting the right option.

How to Open Task Manager on Mac
Mac has its own version of Task Manager called activity monitor, which you can access using the Cmd + Alt + Escape keyboard shortcut. It also gives you the option to force quit running applications, similar to Windows.
